Hi Leslie,

That's cool. I'm not a vegetarian myself, but when you learn the kind of treatment animals get in those giant factory farms, especially chickens and cows, it's absolutely appalling. And if you read FAST FOOD NATION, you'll never eat hamburger again (it poses hundreds of times the health risk as regular beef because it's flesh of many animals ground together, so the whole thing can be contaminated from just one of the animals that's in the mix.)

Some people have no respect for life at all. It can't be healthy to eat something that lived in such mutilated misery, even if there weren't all the antibiotics and hormones they pump them full of to offset the totally unsanitary conditions. Then there's the issue of the genetically modified soy and corn feed they're raised on.

I read that they genetically engineered a chicken with 4 legs and no wings. It's actually humane compared to some of things things they do to the poor chickens.

I support local organic farmers as much as my budget allows. Although I also think the "organic" certifications are getting watered down by big business (you can buy "organic" at Wal-mart these days so they tell me). To be safe, people should know their food producer personally.

Fascinating article on local bio-dynamic farmer Michael Schmidt and the battle for the right to produce and sell raw milk:

Schmidt also has a German master's degree in farming and is an accomplished classical musician and choir conductor.

The history of raw milk and pasteurization is an interesting one.

PS: Happy holidays and whatnot. I hope you never do a Christmas album.

If you really felt the insatiable need to be heart-warming without being nauseating, maybe you could do a New Year's album (Post-Xmas album) instead, with themes of life-changes and looking forward, "Resolutions/Revolutions"? Striving for "mindblowing without being preachy."

I'm imagining a scene of kapparot from the chickens' perspective in an avian version of the Bee Movie.

Lesley -

I'm just wondering if this guitar up for auction is Feist's own guitar, or just a guitar she signed?

Tammy -

Whoa.
I've always wanted a blue guitar and since I look up to Feist, it would be even better to have one signed by her. I'm 15 and I don't know if it's too late to start learning, but i've always wanted to learn how to play. I'll try my best to bid, and I don't drink meat or eat beef or pork.
I'm really glad that Feist is going this because i'm against factory farming and farm animal cruelty.
Thank you for supporting the animals.

My friend just received the blue harmony guitar that she purchased. She's a HUGE fan of Feist, a Feister. And is glad the money is going to a great cause. Love the card that came with it too!! An awesome nice surprise.
