FABULOUS gig last night, viewed from the centre stalls. Vocally, instrumentally & visually (lighting, shadow puppets etc) absolutely TOP!(That's Manc for SUPERB, Lesley!)A full house - fairly quiet, but massively appreciative - was treated to (I think) 21 songs ranging from the beautiful and introspective - you could've heard a pin drop - to the full-on rockers.
Lesley was charming and funny, totally engaging with the audience. Very patient with the initial reticence to join in with the sing-a-long bits ( British reserve, I guess. We're SO well brought-up!), she suggested it was all perhaps a bit too comfortable for us . . . And then she dealt nicely with the drunken Irishman behind us who went a bit too far. Not a peep out of him after she'd given him some back!
Amazingly, her attempts to engage with the audience re United's Champions League Final triumph the night before fell on stony ground! There seemed to be only about a dozen of us who made any kind of response. Were they all out-of-towners, or City fans, or is a Feist audience simply too knowingly intellectual/ elitist (God forbid) to concern themselves with such "trivia"? Thanks anyway, Lesley. Some of us, still mentally celebrating, DID appreciate the attempt to introduce some geographical topicality!
Highlights (for me) of an immaculate-sounding set were Sealion, I Feel It All, My Moon My Man, So Sorry, 1234 and the wonderful The Park - plus the bluesy second song whose title I don't know. Any chance of a set-list?
Make the most of having enjoyed Feist in a relatively intimate venue, o Manchester, cos this is a superstar in the making. Next time it'll be the MEN Arena!
Wow... loved the gig... and the audience was not bad either... I think that the stage pirotechnics were a shadow of what they could have been...ha ha ha... come back to Manchester soon... we love you.
Watching the TV a few years back, I was intrigued by a melody accompanying an advert for beds, in particular the quality of the voice singing “We’ll collect the moments one by one, I guess its how the futures done!” A little research revealed the owner as our one and only Feist.
Fast forward a couple of superb albums later and I made the agonising discovery that I had missed the chance of a live performance in Nottingham 2007 – I vowed this would not happen again!
Finally, here I was with my good lady wife (herself captured under the same spell after many Friday evenings sampling a heady mixture of Merlot and Feist) sat in the Palace Theatre, Manchester ready to be charmed by Lesley herself. We were not to be disappointed. I am sure other reviewers will run through the track listings and describe the nuances of the performance with great precision, so I will leave them to it.
I only wish to thank the whole team for a fantastic evening because this was the best live performance I have ever heard. The band were tighter than my mate from Forres (a town in Scotland…..) but Lesley’s live delivery of her material was, in comparison to the recorded versions, truly astonishing and utterly awesome. At one point during the evening my turned to me and said “Well, I don’t see how we can listen to the (Feist) cd’s after this!” Maybe a bit extreme on reflection but the show was THAT good!
Until next time, thank you
